DS Skibbladner
By villaheidi
When the ship’s bell rings and Skibladner puts out to sea, you will discover “the art of slow travel”. Skibladner has been carrying passengers across Mjøsa since 1856, and is today the world’s oldest paddle steamer still providing this type of service. An impeccably dressed head waiter will ensure that you are comfortable in one of the region’s best restaurants. The unique interior, with its plush, mahogany, brass ceiling lights and gilded mirrors, are reminiscent of a time when gentlemen arrived wearing top hats and ladies came dressed in layers of skirts.
A varied menu is available on board; you can start the day with a breakfast, enjoy a salad or sandwich for lunch, or indulge in Skibladner’s renowned, traditional salmon followed by delicious strawberries for dessert. The ship is fully licensed and offers its own Skibladner wine with a specially designed label signed by a local artist associated with the Mjøsa area. Skibladner is available for chartered trips the month prior to and after the season. During these periods, a range of themed events with food and music are also held.
